The manual (attached below) says that the blinking is meant to happen (although it is not clear why). I fear the repairman may be right. If everything else is working it is likely that the back-light has failed.

Its true with the button presses, but thats casio for you. Casio is way behind in the notification department compared to lets say garmin. There is plenty youtube movies with people going through the modes etc of the gbx100 and there you can see normal time mode. On a sidenote you could check out the garmin instinct.

Sep 9, 2016 · Carefully I took the watch apart all the way down to just the analog mechanism and the PCB board behind the hands. Between the PCB board and the analog hand module there is a leaf spring there that can come loose causing seconds to skip or time not working properly until tapped. I cleaned the leaf spring and realigned it back on to the analog
